What schools are listening for
Interviewers generally want to hear how a pupil thinks: how they approach an unfamiliar problem, whether they can change their mind, and what genuinely interests them.

Preparation guidance
Practise explaining reasoning aloud. Reviewing a worked explanation and then re-stating the method in their own words is excellent interview preparation as well as exam preparation.
Avoid scripted answers. Interviewers notice them, and they leave pupils stranded when the question changes.
